Analgesia in hip fractures. Do fascia-iliac blocks make any difference?

"Our experience shows a great improvement in compliance with fascia-iliac blocks in the pre-operative period. This work has also underpinned the introduction of a new hip fracture care pathway ultimately to better patient care and outcomes."

Improving inpatient care with the introduction of a hip fracture pathway

"A system of payment by results exists for the management of hip fractures in England and Wales. Poor performance against the national standards was noted, reflecting failure to deliver optimal care. Through the introduction of a multi-disciplinary patient pathway and clerking pro forma, the proportion of patients earning the best practice tariff uplift increased from 44.4% to 91.7%. "

National report of the National Hip Fracture Database

"While the challenges of improving post-acute care are recognised as substantial, greatly improving its documentation will provide a basis for comparisons that will be of interest not only to patients and their carers, but to acute and post-acute clinical teams, and to agencies commissioning hip fracture care – agencies which are likely to value cost-effectiveness, especially when it is linked to higher quality care....This Supplement to the National Hip Fracture Database 2012 National Report extends the findings of that Report and should be read in conjunction with it."
